Sexting’ means sending sexually explicit messages and/ or suggestive images or videos. ‘Sexts’ can be sent via any messaging service (often Social Media apps). Sexting can also be called ‘trading nudes’, ‘dirties’, ‘nude selfies’ or ‘pic-for-pic’.
Do you routinely ask about Social Media use when assessing a child/ family?
If you know a child who is at risk of abuse or is being abused, it’s very important that you let the council or the police know.
If the individual is in direct danger, call the Police immediately on 999. If not, telephone Social Services as soon as possible to share your concerns.
