A Wales for All Children: effective engagement with disabled children and children with additional learning needs
Join us for a free event on 7 March 2025 at the Optic, St Asaph to:
- Take part in workshops designed to help you improve your engagement work with disabled children and children with additional learning needs
- Learn about our children’s rights framework and how it can help you comply with statutory duties
- Tell us about you and your work, and how we can support you
We want Wales to be a country which protects and promotes all children’s rights. This includes disabled children and those with additional learning needs.
There are specific duties on public bodies to involve and work with children and young people, including the duty on local authorities in the Children and Families (Wales) Measure 2010 to promote and facilitate participation by children in decisions which might affect them and Chapter 5 of the Additional Learning Needs Code for Wales 2021 explains how local authorities and NHS bodies need to have due regard to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
You’ll learn more about those duties at the event and how a children’s rights approach could provide valuable framework for delivering them and to ensure effective participation of all children and young people.
We’ll hear directly from children and young people about what works, and from public bodies who’ve successfully involved children and young people in decision making.
Our aim is that everyone will leave our event with a tangible goal that will further your work on participation and engagement with disabled children and children with additional learning needs. You don’t need to bring or prepare anything; we’ll cover everything in our interactive sessions throughout the day.
We want our event to be welcoming to all: whether you’re new to this area or have a wealth of experience.
This day is not intended for senior leaders, but those more likely to work directly with children.
