Accessibility statement

Using This Website

This website is run by the North Wales Safeguarding Board.  We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of NVDA)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand. AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use.

How Accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text
  • most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • you cannot skip to the main content when using a screen reader
  • most PowerPoints are not fully accessible.

What to do if you cannot access parts of this website

If you need information on this website in a different format like accessible PDF, large print, easy read, audio recording or braille:

We will consider your request and get back to you in 10 working days.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The North Wales Safeguarding Board is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

issues with technology

  • No ‘skip to main content’ option on any pages.
  • It’s not possible for users to modify text spacing or line height.
  • Some select elements do not have accessible names.
  • Some elements do not meet minimum colour contrast ratios
  • Some labels do not meet minimum colour contrast ratios or have alternate text

We’ve assessed the cost of fixing these issues and believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We will make another assessment within the next 12 months.

issues with pdfs and other documents

Many of our older PDFs and Word documents don’t meet accessibility standards – for example, they may not be marked up so they’re accessible to a screen reader.

The accessibility regulations don’t require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. For example, we don’t plan to fix the summary versions of our reports and strategies including the Annual Business Plans or Annual Reports, Policies & Procedures or 7 Minute Briefings.

Alternative versions of our reports and strategies may not meet accessibility requirements, such as Easy Read documents, but there will be a version of each report or strategy that does meet accessibility standards.

Any new or revised PDFs or Word documents we publish should meet accessibility standards, unless an alternative accessible html version is provided. Some PDFs that have been created by partner organisations or are based on older templates may not be accessible.

how we tested this website

This website was last tested between 11 September 2025 and 18 November 2025. We carried out a basic check as we believe it to be a disproportionate burden to commission a full audit in this financial year.

Automated tests were completed using the latest version of Axe and https://wave.webaim.org/ and manual tests using Silktide Accessibility Checker https://silktide.com/toolbar/ on the following:

  • The sites’ home page
  • Contact page
  • Reporting a concern
  • Policies & Procedures
  • 7 Minute Briefings
  • Information for Adults and subpages
  • Information for Children and subpages
  • Resources and subpages
  • Content pages that are mostly text based
  • Images, video and audio content
  • Navidations pages, including pages with search functionality

We also tested a sample of:

  • PDFs and other document types

We tested our main website platform, available at  https://www.northwalessafeguardingboard.wales/

what we are doing to improve accessibility

  • Training for team members who write for the website about creating accessible document.
  • Exploring options for displaying 7 Minute Briefings and Power-Points in a  more accessible way.
  • Updating the website’s theme to include functions to enhance accessibility.
  • Continuing to undertake further tests on all areas of the website to ensure compliance.
  • Aim to commission full audit in 2026.
