A new adult safeguarding standard data collection return based on the legal duties to report and enquire detailed in the statutory guidance in relation to Part 7 of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 has been developed. The data items in this return are detailed below and must be collected on commencement of the Act in April 2016. This data on adult safeguarding activity will provide context alongside the new performance measures.

Adult safeguarding data items to be collected for 2016-17

 

  1. Number of adults suspected of being at risk of abuse or neglect reported to the local authority during the year
  2. Number of adults reported more than once for the same category of abuse or neglect to the local authority during the year
  3. Number of adults reported more than once for different categories of abuse or neglect to the local authority during the year
  4. Number of reports of an adult suspected of being at risk received by the local authority during the year

4.1 For those reports received during the year:

a) Category of abuse or neglect (including whether domestic or racial abuse)

b) Category of need

c) Age of victim

d) Gender of victim

e) Ethnicity of victim

5. Number of reports that proceed to enquiry during the year

6. Reasons why reports did not proceed to enquiry during the year

7. Number of enquiries that conclude action is required during the year

7.1 For those enquiries that conclude the adult is at risk and action is required:

a) Source of report

b) Place alleged abuse occurred

c) Person alleged responsible for abuse or neglect

d) Number of adults who refused to participate in identified action

8. Number of criminal investigations

9. Number of non-criminal investigations
