Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Protection Orders will be in force from 17th July 2015. The timing of this new provision is very relevant, just at the start of the summer school holidays, a time when girls are often taken abroad and subjected to FGM.
Interim guidance has been issued for local authorities that provides additional advise and support to frontline local authority employees and to their legal advisors.

If you know a child who is at risk of abuse or is being abused, it’s very important that you let the council or the police know.
If the individual is in direct danger, call the Police immediately on 999. If not, telephone Social Services as soon as possible to share your concerns.
